FemCity Seattle Chapter President Amalia Martino, Tannya Bernadette, stylist and owner of the Tannya Bernadette Consignment Boutique, and Fashion Marketing Consultant Cynarah Ellawala are collaborating to present the Seattle Designer Series. Seattle is host to an increasing number of designers who are serious about their craft. In order to bring some of these talented individuals into the spotlight, Tannya Bernadette’s Consignment Boutique in Ballard will act as a pop-up shop on a monthly rotation. Beginning in July and running through December, a local designer will be featured in Tannya’s Boutique, opening the second Saturday of every month as a part of the Ballard Art Walk.
WHY A SEATTLE DESIGNER SERIES?
This is a huge opportunity to meet local talent and support their efforts. Seattle has long been a joke in the subject of fashion—whenever “Seattle” is in the same sentence as “style,” more often than not, it is merely to underline the stereotypical faux pas of its locals, be it sandals with socks or an overdose of plaid. That this dialogue should occur in place of what our local talent is actually doing is a huge misfortune. Instead of harping on Seattle’s grungy past or REI present, we should be spreading awareness of our city’s successes and upcoming promising talent, starting with this Seattle Designer Series.
Stop by Tannya Bernadette’s Consignment Boutique and vote for progress by supporting local independent designers. They are not making felt hats, wacky costume jewelry, or other small-time “I’m a local designer” ware; they are creating clothing in direct conversation with the runways of New York, Europe, and elsewhere.
DESIGNER LINEUP
Saturday, July 14th: Shannon Moe of Ilha Swimwear

Designer and founder Shannon Moe brings together swimwear elements from around the world to create fun, stylish, and unique bikinis for today’s sun-loving girl.
Growing up with frequent visits to the Hawaiian island of Maui, she was quickly enthralled with the ocean, beach, and of course, the bikini. A six month adventure in South America opened her eyes to the sexy cut and bare-it-all attitude of the beach worshippers of Brazil and Argentina.
Inspired and always searching for the perfect fit, Shannon moved to Australia where she attended design classes at the Australian Institute of Fashion Design.
With all the tools she needed, she returned home to rainy Seattle and got to work, creating all of her own designs and even sewing each piece individually. So everything you get from ilha comes straight from her hands!
Saturday, August 11th: Jessica Park of Ampersand as Apostrophe
“A native of Detroit and now Seattle-based designer, Jessica Park was inspired to make her first bag out of sheer captivation of an ‘as-chance-would-have-it’ material. It was the look of something conventional dying to be transformed in a truly unconventional way. Soon after, AMPERSAND AS APOSTROPHE, a fashion accessories brand known for it’s smart wit, eco-friendly ways and innovative approach to design, was launched.”

Saturday, September 8th: Cameron Levin
Says Cameron of her brand:
” As a fashion designer based in the Pacific Northwest, I aim to create
artistic pieces that enchant and inspire while minimally impacting our
environment.”

Saturday, October 13th: Masha Osoianu
“Masha Osoianu Design is a collection of one-of-a-kind special occasion and evening wear pieces. All pieces are made by hand and have hand-knit or crochet element.”
Saturday, November 10th: Kate Mensah of Kreati-Ka
Kate Mensah is a French designer living in Seattle. Kreati-ka wants to offer creative ready-to-wear and eveningwear for women who want to have a feminine, elegant and sensual look for any occasion. Kreati-Ka offers quality garments by using natural fabrics such as silks and wool in the designs. Kate gets her inspiration from women, nature and from her personal background.
Saturday, December 15th: Catherina De Montjoye of Marca Shoes
Catherina and her mother Martha (together to make “Marca”) have teamed up to create Marca Shoes. According to the designing duo, “these hand-made shoes are a blend of chic style and comfort, the perfect companion for an active and playful lifestyle.”
