Neiman Marcus + Target: Opposites Attract
An unlikely partnership has formed between Neiman Marcus and Target to present a holiday collection this December. Twenty-four Council of Fashion Designers in America (CFDA) members created one to three items each for the line, including Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta, Derek Lam, and Carolina Herrera.
The collection will be available December 1st at 42 select Neiman Marcus stores, all Target locations, and online at target.com and neimanmarcus.com. The prices range appropriately for the two chains, starting at $7.99 and maxing out at $499.99.

“We gave the designers a lot of latitude,” explained Kathee Tesija, Target’s executive vice president of merchandising. “The collection will have far-reaching appeal. It will resonate with consumers who shop with Neiman Marcus or Target or both. It will be a diverse mix of exceptionally designed product at great values. Some of the designers chose to create things in their wheelhouse — what they do everyday. And some really wanted to do different things.”
Other participating brands include Alice + Olivia, Altuzarra, Band of Outsiders, Marchesa, Prabal Gurung, Proenza Schouler, Rag & Bone, Rodarte, and Tracy Reese.
The wide-reaching line will include apparel for men, women, and children, accessories, home decor, accessories for electronics, pet accessories, and sporting goods.
As with Target’s previous designer collaborations, the collection is expected to go quickly. Industry sources expect the collection to disappear within days, and at most, two weeks. After Target’s experience with Missoni in which their website crashed and the collection disappeared within minutes of the doors opening, the two chains are preparing for the expected reception.
In addition, Target and Neiman will be donating $1 million to the CFDA. “I can think of no better finale to CFDA’s 50th anniversary celebration than through this extraordinary designer collaboration,” said von Furstenberg, president of the CFDA. “As designers, creativity is our best gift, and with the generous support of Neiman Marcus and Target, we are happy to have created specially designed products as a thank you to share with our consumers and friends.”
Mark your calendars for December 1st!
